How to plan a trip to Kaş
Kaş can't be finished in a day just because it's small; sea activities and surrounding routes take more time than a walk around the centre. Plan a boat day, a diving/snorkelling day and a western coast day.
On a Kekova tour, whether the boat departs from Kaş or Üçağız changes the route and duration. Swimming/diving over the sunken city is restricted for conservation; choose an operator that follows the rules.
Things to do in Kaş
Central Kaş and Antiphellos
Walk the Uzun Çarşı, the King's Tomb and the theatre at the end of the day. The theatre gets crowded at sunset; sit safely on the stone steps.
Kekova and Simena
Ask about boat capacity, the route, the swimming cove and the time ashore at Kaleköy. Simena has stairs; bring shoes and water.
Kaputaş, Patara and diving
Roadside parking at Kaputaş is dangerous; use the dolmuş. At Patara, follow the archaeological site–beach entry and closing times and the caretta nesting rules. For diving, a licensed centre and a health form are essential.
Area by area: where to go
The centre suits car-free food/nightlife; the Çukurbağ Peninsula views–hotels but needs a dolmuş/taxi; Büyükçakıl a quieter beach; and Kalkan is a separate, steeper, villa-focused base.
Where to stay in Kaş
On a first car-free trip, stay in the centre. At a sea-view peninsula hotel, ask whether the beach is a platform or sand, about the last dolmuş to the centre and the stairs to your room.
What to eat in Kaş
Mezes, fish, octopus, courgette flowers and Antalya piyaz appear in the local cuisine. World cuisine is strong in the tourist centre; for local produce, use market day and tradesmen's restaurants.
For the fish/meze bill, ask about the per-kilo price and cover charge; for boat meals, mention vegetarian/allergy needs in advance.
Getting to and around Kaş
DLM Dalaman is closer/more practical for most flights; the road from AYT Antalya is longer. Arrange your airport transfer in advance; Kaş bus station is in the centre.
The centre is walkable; the Çukurbağ Peninsula by dolmuş/taxi, Kaputaş–Kalkan–Patara by the western dolmuş, and Kekova via the Üçağız/Demre boat/road line.
Cafés, nightlife and shopping
Kaş nightlife means small bars, live music and the area around the square; don't expect big clubs. Look for producer information on handmade jewellery, Lycian-themed ceramics and local honey.
Day trips from Kaş
Kekova is a full day; Kaputaş–Kalkan–Patara a western day; and Demre–Myra–St Nicholas an eastern day — plan them separately. The Meis (Kastellorizo) ferry means entering Greece; you need a passport and the right Schengen status.
Best time to visit Kaş
May–June and September–October are ideal. July–August is very hot and the centre/parking crowded; winter is calm but there are fewer boats and businesses.
How to budget for your trip
Boats, diving, transfers and peninsula hotels push up costs. Central guesthouses, dolmuşes and public/pebble beaches balance them. For the Meis ferry, ask about port tax and international conditions.
Safety and common mistakes
Don't park haphazardly on the Kaputaş road. Don't think of Meis as a domestic trip with an ID card. Don't skip a diving/boat company's authorisation and safety equipment to save money.
Where to eat: selected places
These aren't places to tick off one by one — they're the stops that best capture how the city eats. Opening hours and prices change, so check before you go.

A central restaurant known for its charcoal grills and mezze.
Why we picked it: For a classic grill experience; in a tourist area, ask for sourcing documents rather than assuming halal.
