Planning an Egypt history and beach trip
An Egypt trip can start with the pyramids, continue among Luxor’s temple columns and slow down beside the Red Sea. Each part has a different rhythm: Cairo is a living metropolis, Luxor an outdoor archaeological visit, and Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh a holiday shaped by the coast you choose.
You need not visit both Red Sea destinations on a first trip. Choose one coastal base alongside Cairo and Luxor to reduce travel. Leave rest between sightseeing days and treat long overland journeys as travel time, rather than spare hours available for another temple or boat excursion.
Egypt travel essentials
Check entry rules against your route
Check your passport’s requirements with the official Egypt e-Visa service or embassy. An entry permission limited to a Sharm stay may not cover a Cairo or Luxor itinerary.
EGP, small notes and gratuities
The currency is the Egyptian pound. Carry small notes and clarify whether guiding, transfers and gratuities are included in tours; foreign-currency package prices do not describe everyday spending.
Ticket coverage and heat
A general archaeological-site ticket may exclude individual tombs or pyramid interiors. Check admission coverage and schedule exposed sites early, with indoor museums during the hottest hours.
Reefs and tour operators
Use licensed diving and boat operators, and check equipment and cancellation terms. Do not stand on coral or feed wildlife; hotel beach access does not guarantee easy reef entry.
10–12 days
Nile heritage and Hurghada
Four nights in Cairo, three in Luxor and three or four in Hurghada. Keep intercity travel days free of fixed museum and boat reservations.
8–10 days
Cairo and the Sinai coast
Follow Cairo’s monuments with a flight to Sharm el-Sheikh. Leave four or five nights for reefs, rest and weather-dependent boat trips.
Egypt’s cities and Red Sea bases
Cairo and Luxor need full sightseeing days. Hurghada pairs with Luxor by road; Sharm el-Sheikh lies on a different coast and usually needs separate travel planning.
